layout

Need help. I have built several 4X8 layouts. Now I want a larger one. I have approx 20X20 ft area. Is their a book that has instructions concerning levels, grades, for multi train layouts?

I don’t think there are any step-by-step types because once a layout space gets that large there are just so many possibilities. Your best bet for planning the layout might be “Track Planning for realistic operation” by John Armstrong. Theoretically all the things you have learned with the 4x8 should be applicable. Didn’t any of those have grade, bridges, etc?

I’d have to agree with TZ.

Once you get the book he mentions, and you’ve read through it, you’ll need some track planning software. There are two that come to mind, both xtrackcad and atlas rts 7.0 are free programs. Xtrackcad has a huge library or track types. Here’s there link;

Atlas has released their latest version of RTS (right track software)…Version 7.0. Unfortunately, rts 7.0 only uses atlas track. You can get it from the atlas site;

Unfortunately, both xtrackcad and rts 7.0 are pc-only.

Make sure you fully register both of these products or many of the features won’t work.
