Using turnouts to control blocks. Advantages/disadvantages vs. cab control?
2" rise with 36"run = 5% gradient. Heresy!!. But it’s a very small layout and the diesel pulls 5 cars with no problem. Sacrificed some realism for more track
Station names/signs changeable for trains to arrive at “different” locations
Lightest foamcore sheets used a dust cover. Very light, very inexpensive

Not quite sure what you are asking. Sounds like you have an operating layout and are looking for suggestions to improve it. If so, we need to see what the current track plan is to be able to make suggested changes. Is your track secured or just in place?
Do you change the signs as the trains move along?
My current layout could use a dust cover, as it was built as a temporary, but it and the location have been changed to permenant, at least for the forseeable future.
