layouts

Is your layout modular or not.[?]

MIne is not modular but it is sectional so i can move it, altough the bits are rather big for regular moving.

splitting hairs really.

oprr:

Ditto - not modular but sectional. Perhaps you can add that as an option on the poll?

Thanks,
Jer

mine will be part modular or permanent. one of the 2.

It was built in sections but its permanently screwed to the wall.

Permanent, but I built it on casters so that I may move it out of the way.

Mine is presently permanent, however could be easily made modular with the aid of a chainsaw.

( I will live to regret this statement)

This is it - the last layout. Only a few years until retirement and this is our final house. The dream layout I’ve always wanted and the rest of my life to do it. Very permanent.

Permanent, but sectional so I could move it if I want. It’s also easier to build - at least for me.

Enjoy

My CP layout is sectional as well. When the time comes to move it it should be able to be moved with little destruction to it

I belong to one fixed layout club and one modular club for which I am working on 5 modules, 4 switching and 1 duckunder bridge 48" long. My own layout is sectional so it can be disassembled for moving, but it is not to modular spec’s. I have started and torn out two fixed layouts as my participation and focus has matured. my current layout project is making joinable sections with large curves having easments. I am using teminal strips and trailer connectors from any auto parts store to join the units. johncolley tholcapn

MODULAR

Modular in one room, permanent in the other, with a hole in the wall in the middle!

I guess my layout is permanent, but could be moved if you cut the legs off. I suppose that it will have to be moved eventually because I’m 17 and will some day be moving into a place of my own.

I began this layout using so called dominos, but found some things in this type of construction not to my liking so the balance of the layout is and will be L-girder construction. We are in what we believe will be our final house so no need to worry about moving the layout. If a move should take place I would call it an opportunity to start over with a new layout experiment rather than try to relocate a layout.

My layout is perment - well sorta. I built the benchwork in 3 sections, 2 of which will be used as storage and the center has a roll-out CTC and mini-workbench.

Once I go for “roll call up yonder” my son-in-law will be able to break it up to fit in his pickup.

My home layout (HO) is permanent and I’m also a member of Ntrak, so I’ve got one of each. Before I bought my new house three years ago, I had a fairly large (15x25) sectional layout built in the house I was renting. I’ll NEVER build a sectional home layout again! Too many unsoldered and unjumpered rail joints that caused nothing but operational nightmares. That layout finally stagnated because I had to cleanthe tracks and replace several bridge tracks each time I wanted to operate, taking up over an hour just to start turning wheels!

Its Permanent, and if I have to move or move on its time for the layout to go. If I move I;ll start over and if I move on, then my son can figure out what he wants to do with it. LOL

I do believe it is quite permanently screwed into my walls. My layout goes through
two walls into a closet and back out over lift bridge(s). It is a shelf type to fit the
room and to enjoy eternally.

I had the sad occasion to take a chainsaw to my layout. After moving to my new location, I elected to start over rather than piece it back together. So I took the pieces to a train show and sold them all!

My current layout is sectional.
