LAZ, I hope you DVR's this week's Extreme Trains. You see the Nation's #1 RR and a real coal tipple.

The whole show was about NS and its coal trains. See the coal “washed”. dried and prepared for dumping. See the cars loaded at the mine. Also, the Altoona Shops that even the nation’s other RR’s send their engines to have them repaired and rebuilt. There is a crane that lifts the whole engine and moves it overhead to its shop area. Then they go through the Horseshoe Curve and on into the Washington PA power plant. There, a real coal tipple dumps the cars. To my surprise, the cars are not moved by a train engine. Hydrolic cylinders move the cars through. You do see the cars rotate and dump. The plant burns one train load of coal a day.

I saw the coal tipple first hand at this powerplant years ago, it’s awesome!

CHIEF,

I already have it taped. That coal plant with the Rotary Coal Tipple is about 45 minutes away from me. I want to see if they give tours? Might be real interesting. GO NS!!!

Thanks CHIEF,

I already have it taped. That plant is about 45 minutes north of me and want to see if they give tours? Might be worth the drive. Thats what stirred me to get the Lionel Rotary Tipple. I thought it was just a fake accessory, till I saw it on EXTREME TRAINs. Funny thing is that when the guy designed the tipple for Lionel, I found out he was from my hometown of HAZLETON, Pa. Small world?

GO NS!!!

I saw that one…Laz, you came to mind as soon as I saw the tipple.

I really loved the Extreme Trainz episode featuring the UP 844. What a train!

I got it recorded…but I guess when you have seen the “curve” from every angle possible for so long, it kinda gets old. It is nice to see our little piece of the world on national TV, however. We ride quads all around there, sometimes along the outer track for a little ways to get to another path.

Also, recorded “when giants roamed” and “railway marvels”.
