Least Favorite part about the hobbie

I thought this topic could be kinda fun and informitive to others that might be strong in the part your week in.

I’d have to say not being able to afford things that I would like to have, like the OMI Big Boy.

I can’t say that there is any aspect of the hobby that I really dislike.

I haven’t really done any of the above, but wiring is the least appealing to me.

I will have to go with scott on this one. Wiring is very tedious work.

Before I started the benchwork, there was models.

After I finished the benchwork, there was models.

After I finished the foam stacking and carving, there was models.

After I finished laying the track, there was models…

If you want to run trains in a built-up area, ya gotta have structures, and if you aren’t up to kitbashing, there is always another model. (sigh)

I didn’t vote. The worst part of the hobby for me is clearing the space. Well, after paying for the materials, clearing the space is worst.

HANDS DOWN, IT’S WIRING!!!

I’m happy to be done with benchwork. After all these years, getting back into the hobby is fun in every way. I’ve always kind of enjoyed wiring, and with all sorts of new toys like LED’s, it’s still entertaining.

[#ditto] I have a basement to clear out then I can have an empire.
Enjoy

  1. The items I want cost so freaking much! Thats a real pain in the puppet.

  2. Assembling complex strutures kits. I just can’t do it. No matter how slow and carefully I go, I always end up with misaligned corners and little gaps.

Hey Bro79m; Your poll is very interesting but you omitted a point & it’s,not having a
budget to cover the items that are needed to participate. SSI leaves no margin to spend,
leaving only to sit by enjoy the talents of all fellow railroaders and dream while visiting
the local train shows.
Thanks for all the wonderful dreams you have provided.
May God Bless You All lester2max

My least favorite part of the hobby is wiring. Although I don’ t find it hard to do, it can get tediuous.

The other reason I dislike wiring so much is I can work on the layout all month long doing wiring and when the guys come over to run trains, their first remark is, “Hey, doesn’t look like you worked on the layout much this month …” [B)]

All that hard work doesn’t really show much. Now if I work on scenery … they have all kinds of good things to say about the progress I’ve made … and yet I may have spent fewer hours doing scenery than I did wiring … [xx(]

Wiring and the Soldering Iron!
Or otherwise known as the electric pencil of pain!!! to my fingers.

Oh yeah, without a doubt, it’s wiring.

I understand electricity about as much as I understand women - which is to say, NOT AT ALL![:D]

Wiring, hands down. I love detailing the heck out of my layout and models but my wiring is super simple single-cab DC with Insulfrog turnouts for power routing and control.

People mention “spending” as their least favorite part, but spending goes hand in hand with buying, and who doesn’t like buying stuff? Not buying stuff is no fun, but then not buying stuff is generally not part of the hobby.

Wiring I can cope with, it’s scenery I don’t like - I usually end up with a horrible mess where my nice clean MDF boards were before!

…I rest my case!

The only thing I can think of is explaining to the wife why I need more trains![:)]

I have to say, wiring and bidgeting are both equally annoying to me
