Leave It to Beaver – “Beaver’s Electric Trains”

Several year’s ago I viewed this episode when a local television station was airing the Leave it to Beaver program that appeared in the late 1950’s to early 1960’s.

This episode first aired on ABC Saturday, Jan 27, 1962.

Synopsis:
June Cleaver, Beaver’s mother, runs across Beaver’s old electric trains while cleaning and since he hasn’t played with them in years,
finds someone who will take them, with Beaver’s consent.

However, Beaver quickly re-discovers the fun he has with his old trains and wants to withdraw from the arrangement,
even though, the new owners-to-be are expecting them.

Luckily, I discovered that this would be shown on our local cable station and recorded it to DVD.

My curiosity got the better of me and I would like to determine the specific Lionel cars used in this episode.

Have there been any train magazine articles or Lionel reference books that have listed, specifically the train items shown in the program?

Has Classic Toy Trains published an article on this train set?

there was a reference in the Lionel set book 1955 to 1959 and one of the cars is Alaska 6464

The set seems to be a small hudson in 1959 Lionel made a set with said car pulled by 665 w 2046w along with log dump fire car 3512 6812 matience car though that does not seem to fit QUITE right more then likely it is a generic set buildings are Plasticville looks like Beav had walk around throttle as well at least in the pic

It’s a mongrel set, but the loco is definitely a 2-4-2 type, & probably a 243 or 244.

Couldn’t catch the loco number when the episode aired last week as the train was moving too fast. Beaver’s friend Gilbert brings his trains over too after the two of them decide Beave isn’t going to let the little kid have them. Gilbert’s set includes a Lionel General and a Marx tunnel but by then it was too late, Wally gave Beave’s set to the kid’s older sister. Beave asks dad for a set of electric trains for his birthday at the end of the show.

Dennis of Dennis the Menace also had Lionel’s in an episode of that show. His set was the Super Chief running on the floor around Plasticville buildings.

There was another episode where Beavers friend had a huge American Flyer layout.

Yes, Dennis the Menace also had a Lionels, but it was a Santa Fe Alco, pulling a few of the 027 Passenger cars.
