I want to glue some 3mm flat top LEDs into a styrene piece where I have already drilled holes. Is the clear plastic of the LED also styrene- or another type of “engineering” plastic. If styrene, I could use Model Master window (canopy) glue on the sides to tack it in place.
If another type of plastic, what would alternatively work?

If you drill a #32 hole (0.116" OD), the LED will press fit into the hole and you won’t even need glue. To answer your question, the LED lens should be made of epoxy and a little Elmer’s glue on the side should hold it in place just fine. Should you ever need to remove the LED, a little water will soften up the glue.

LION press fits them to the hole and then applies a glob of silicone caulk behind the led.

Some plain white glue (or the canopy cement, it’s pretty much the same thing) works great for this. Just enough holding power to keep it there when running and transporting, but apply a little pressure and it will pop right out without damage to the LED or the surrounding plastic.

Used the Model Master Canopy glue from the underside of the mounting hole to keep any glue away from the head of the LED- worked perfect. Just wanted to b sure about the LED “clear” material, as to what it really is. Once informed, next time knowledgeable! Thanks Randy!
