LED lights for the Optivisors

I received my new Micro Mark catalog today and it has a light set for the Optivisor. It has four LEDs, one in each corner and is powered by two AA batteries. I was about to order one but discovered how much the shipping to Canada would be. This firm is not cheap on anything they carry and high postal rates sure don’t help.

Is this item available in Canada?

I know what visor your talking about and I can’t imagine how 4 LEDs would produce enough light to make it worth while. You could probably make your own light rig for about $5 to see if it works. (if you already have a visor)

I agree with Loathar. I just use the light on my wifes sewing magnifier light (I don’t use the magnifier lens obviously since I have the Optivisor!) and I think that probably gives better illumination than any light on the visor itself.

I got one free one time from , internettrains with an order. Actually they light up really nice, I use it when I’m doing real close up work. Mine isn’t a " brand name" like the one Micro Mark has , but its just fine. Various level of magnification with flip down lenses. Look around , I think Harbor Freight Tools has them for a far cheaper price.

Sears sells a ball cap that has LEDs built into the edge of the bill and they do a pretty good job under two feet but the cap is expensive. Something like $14.00 US. However, they also sell a battery powered LED light source that clips onto glasses and cousl very easily clip on to each side of an optivisor that is in the $5-9 range subject to sales. I suspect that most major hardware stores sell something similar. I can remember reading MR in the 50’s and there would always be an Optivisor ad with some old guy saying he couldn’t do without it and thinking what do you need that thing for. What a waste of money. Now I know!

Found this on sale at Walthers. Don’t if it’s any cheaper than what Micro Mark had. Looks like it might have brighter lights on it.

The other day when driving home after dark I saw a cyclist with a light on his head much like a miner’s light. The light was on his forehead attached to a strap around his head. I thought it was a good idea because as he turned his head it would illuminate where he was looking. Maybe such a light would work for you? I’ve seen them advertised from time to time in store flyers along with flashlights.

It works very well,a ctually. High-brightness white LEDs produce a LOT of light, blindingly bright if you stare at them.

You might be able to find a cheap knockoff of the Optivisor with the LEDs already attached at a place like Canadian Tire. Your other alternative is to build it yourself - it’s simply a battery holder, switch, and a couple of LEDs with resistors. Finding a way to attach it to your Optivisor would be the hard part.

I’ve got one of those with a super bright krypton bulb in it. It’s great for working on my car when my hands are full. I wish I had a second one to mount on my visor.
