LED size problem

I need some orange 3mm LED’s for flashers. I was thinking about getting them here: http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/Led.htm. They don’t have any in 3mm. They have them in 5mm. What do you use? I read somewhere where you could shave the LED flat to use as a detector. Could you do the same thing and make a 3mm at the tip? Is yellow ok to use as a flasher?

Try Digi-Key. Search for LEDs. It will take you to a page, then find LEDs - Discrete under Optoelectronics. Click on that and you can apply filters to find exactly what you want. Minimum order is $25. Less than that, there is a $5 handeling charge.

You want LEDs? In orange? Go here:

http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/L200-O3K/

They have EVERYTHING when it comes to LEDs.

Another good site for LED’s especially for model RR:

What color do you guys use for flashers? Yellow? Orange? On the LEDtronics site. Also I was thinking about getting the LDF120CWO3KF for my flasher and the LF200CW6KB-27 for my headlights. What do you think? Are they good choices. Are they a good price?

richmondcontrols.com has 3 mm leds but only in ‘golden white’ or ‘sunny white’. The golden ones might work for you. They also sell leds with ‘reduced tip diameters’ meant to fit directly into headlight holes. Might be worth a look. I ordered from them once and was pleased with their product.

Or my favorite, Mouser. I like them better than DigiKey because there is no surcharge for a small order. Their catalog has pages of LEDs in many colors and sizes. Sign up for a free catalog, they come quarterly, and are bigger than the Sears catalog used to be. Heaven for the electronics nuts.
