OK, after me driving Bob crazy for weeks, I hooked up an LED by his instructions, it worked like a charm. The only problem is, the light from the LED did’nt really do much inside the observation car. So I hooked up another one. Same problem, just didn’t really light much up. If I turned out the overhead lights it looked as if a dim light was on, but the effect really was pale.
My question now is, ( I’ll just hang on to the LED’s for some other lighting projects where they will work OK. ) can I use those connectors and simply do a car to car hook up with them using regular light bulbs which light the cars up nicely? The connectors that were sent to me work great. Hooked to the pick up roller wire on the locomotives, will they cause any problems with say 3 light bulbs hooked up in a string? Thanks, Jake
Okay I’m not that much up on this but thinking it out I don’t see where it would as I have 6 PA. MTH Passenger cars behind my 671 and they have 2 bulbs each I think( maybe 3 as they are about 16" long) anyway thats 12 bulbs pulling from the track plus the engine ( oh yeah the light in the engine also) so you should be fine I would think. It might be better to do one or two pickups from a passenger car instead from the engine but I guess it would be fine the way you have it also. (Okay Bob now its your turn to come in tell me how wrong and why and you will be correct as I don’t know a thimble full in electronics compare to you [(-D])
I only have one bulb in each and they are quite lit up! I do not have the entire mess wired yet, but I have everything done except the tether to the engine. Each bulb is grounded in each car with the hot wire running all the way through, tethering each car with little connectors someone was kind enough to throw my way. With the cars all on the track and the tether hanging out the front that is going to the engine, the cars all light up for what that’s worth! Jake
I was trying to kid with Bob as he would never come in like that what he would do is say well that won’t work because you are pulling to much this or that and it will end up doing thids or that or he would say exactly right it will work as you can pull XX of this or that with out a problem
I don’t see any problem in what you have done but we’ll let one of the experts kick in probally tonight or tomorrow sometime
Happy New Years and have fun thats what its all about.
Yes it did I guess. I’ve found out that often in life one thing is connected to another thing, we often just don’t know it until it happens. That scenario happens in timber quite a bit. I did not get a tract of timber I really wanted a few years ago, another company cut it and I found out later they peeked at my sealed bid. I just let it go, then found out a few weeks later the landowner lied about the property lines and the company that cut the timber ended getting the crap sued out of them! Odd how justice and prevail at times! Jake
