Legacy GP-7 issue - Resolved

Hello All:

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I have finally gotten around to hooking up the Legacy system I purchased back in March. Prior to connecting, I sent the system back to Lionel to get the 1.2 upgrade performed and the system appears to be working well. However, I have run into an issue with my only Legacy engine, a NYC GP-7. While the horn/bell and the dialog are high quality, the sounds of the engine appear to be faulty. On a regular basis the prime mover sounds will cut out and is replaced by the sound of static. Has anyone else had this issue? Any recommendations? Everything else appears to be functioning. I really love how this engine looks and runs but I am disappointed in the inconsistent sound.

Regards,

John

I fixed the problem! I found that someone on the OGR boards was experiencing a similar problem. It turns out that if the sound board is not securely seated into its socket, static can occur. Removing the shell and securely fastening the sound board fixed the problem. Hopefully the problem will not reappear. In the meantime, I am getting a kick out of watching the GP 7 crawl around my loop. I think the Legacy system is not very intuitive but I love the way it controls trains. I also have a TMCC U28 and it runs much better under Legacy. While I still like DCS, Lionel deserves kudos (now that the bugs are worked out) for a wonderful system.

Regards,

John
