A reader contacted us and reported that he has been running a Legacy diesel with the Legacy command system and that he has been experiencing occasions where he gets it up and running and then it is unresponsive to changes in speed.
He doesn’t believe it is a communications issue since he is able transmit command for lights, sounds, etc. and the locomotive reacts to those – but not increases or decreases in speed.
So he doesn’t know if it is a Legacy command system issue or a Legacy diesel model issue.
Is he running straight/strict Legacy or does he still have a CAB-1 and original TMCC Command Base hooked up to the layout? There is a warning in the Legacy doc’s that you should not atempt to access/control the same loco from both remotes.
I understand but I’m trying to figure out if the issue is with the velocity throttle (big red knob) or something between the CAB-2 and the base, or something in his loco. Does the CAB-2 behave normally when operating non legacy engines?
Well, the chap said he would use the throttle as normal, then at some point it was like the locomotive locked onto the speed, continued on, then it was unresponsive till he did an emergency stop.
And thats all I know about it. He didn’t want to post the question himself. I’m guessing it may be a locomotive electronics issue, but he doesn’t have any other Legacy engines to compare it with.
Bob, please ask this person to write all the information down as to what it does/doesn’t do. Also, if he will write down all the steps to fixing it, unsuccessful and finally the fix. Since this is new technology, perhaps this can be a good learning tool to either be posted here, or in the pages of CTT.
