Jerry Calabrese on Lionel LEGACY Control System Upgrade 04/09/2008
In the more than three years since I joined Lionel, nothing has given me more pleasure than hearing early users of Lionel’s new LEGACY Control System talk about how much they like it. LEGACY was the most ambitious technical project that Lionel has undertaken in more than a decade, and I think that most people would agree with my own, admittedly, biased opinion that it has delivered on our promise to create the best operating system available.
When we first announced the LEGACY development project, I said that Lionel was committed to continuing development of new features, as well as total support for LEGACY users. Part of that commitment to support is our ongoing efforts to identify problems and make the process of fixing them as painless as possible. With the Lionel LEGACY Control System now in wide use, we’ve become aware of a problem that can require periodic reloading of the base Operating System, which resets the user entered information.
After a lot of thought and testing, we understand why the system is having this problem, and we are planning an upgrade that will fix it, free of charge to our customers, which will be available before the end of May. Though our main focus of this upgrade
Hmmmm… I wonder if this new upgrade will also give use to the “Train Link” button?
I would theorize that since the upgrades will be sent to the owners address, that the upgrade would be like on of the ‘chips’ used to enter info into the system for engines… [8D]
I started my train hobby a couple of months ago after my first daughter went off to college. After extensive reading of online forums, books and magazines, I decided to go with the Lionel Legacy system. This forum is one of the best resources for information and partially responsive for my selection to date.
I bought a Lionel Legacy command system, NYC GP7, some O scale cars from Atlas, Lionel and MTH and a basic O54 loop of Atlas 21st Century track with two switches. I was up and running in a day. I can control the locomotive, the switches and the uncoupling track from the remote. As we say in New England, it’s wicked cool.
I just bough the Lionel CSX SD40-2 Husky Stack Set as my second locomotive. I will be expanding my layout with some Ross switches. I had to return both Atlas switches for manufacturing defects (one had a short and the other a bad terminal post). The second set has been working fine but I think I need to explore all the available options as I learn the craft.
I have had the “base not found” issue and I found instructions for recovering online. Given my limited set up this was simple. I am glad to see Lionel is taking proactive action to address this issue. I am looking forward to a long and happy train hobby experience with my Lionel Legacy control system.
Thanks for the heads up, Marty. Even though I’ve had no issues with Legacy so far I will register for the upgrade. I’m hoping the upgrade includes the ability to address and run a new engine while the previous one continues to accellerate or slow to it’s preset limit. Could this be possible?
Marty…It is posts like this that make this forum great. Thank you for providing a heads up. It is appreciated.[tup] BTW, what box are you working in today? The Masters? The Stanley Cup? Will you be in Buckeyeland to broadcast the greatest spring sporting event…Buckeye Spring Football Practise? [8D]
No box today. Just came home after 2 weeks. 4 days in San Diego, a week in LA for Idol and then NBA in Oakland. Off until after York.
A reminder we are having a Legacy breakfast at Alexander’s near the back entrance of York for anyone interested. Only cost is breakfast and a nice tip. Rich Moser from Lionel will be attending with Legacy in hand to answer questions. Friday morning at 8am.
MARTY, will see you at the LEGACY Meeting on friday morning. I’ll be there closer to 9 oclock unless we get moving quicker here. I’d like to leave for 7 but wife wants to eat breakfast at DENNYs on RT 30. So gotts please her first.
Breakfast is part of the program. We will actually be discussing some of the point while breakfast is being ordered and served. I think it would be a meal better than any Denny’s![:D] Looking forward to seeing you.
