Legacy Upgrade Chip and other news from Lionel

There was a World’s Greatest Hobby show today in Louisville, and I took the opportunity to bug the Lionel rep in attendence for a little while.

I was told, first of all, that the Legacy upgrade chip is in the pipeline for November.

I asked about Legacy engines in the $300-400 price range, and was told that there were several in the works for the upcoming catalog.

The next question was on the K-line dump cars, and I was told that “Lionel would continue to make the most popular K-line items.”

Finally, I posted this in another thread, but I was informed that the new Postwar classics would have mechanical e-units.

Thanks Ben.

NOVEMBER?!?!?!?!?! What are they nuts? I’m all for making sure it’s working but November? Sorry Lionel I am a Legacy guy but IF that is true that is awful.

I haven’t bought Legacy yet but plan to do so by the end of the year to use the $30.00 off coupon. My guess is November has been chosen so the next shipment of Legacy will include the fixes. At least I hope so :).

I hope they meant the next shipment with the upgrade already installed and NOT the upgrade chip itself due out last month. I don’t have qualms waiting and extra month or 2 but 6 beyond the scheduled date for this type of thing is a little out there.

Personally I feel if the delay is only six months that will be a real accomplishment in and of itself.

Since the Lionmaster BigBoy has been delayed until November, (which I am not sure helps or hurts me), I am in no hurry to buy the Legacy system itself. But I do plan to wait until after the upgrade has been incorporated or is at least included in the box.

MARTY,

I’m with you on the 6 month issue. They (LIONEL) told us at YORK it would be out at the end of MAY. I figured 2 months past MAY. Now NOVEMBER? NO GOOD. COME ON LIONEL PRODUCE FOR DA MASSES!

LAZ…

It is obvious that Lionel needs to hire teachers that can teach them how to read a calendar and a clock.

I have a rudimentary knowledge of bringing a project to fruitioin, and I am guessing that Lionel’s internal communication is about as bad as it can get in a corporate setting.

I think one of the worst things Lionel suffers from is lack of communication. Whether to it’s customers, other employees, or sellers. The website is a powerful tool to use inform. Personally I like the MTH and CTT e-news letters. I think it’s a neat and inexpensive way to relate news on products and such.

I know when I spoke with Mike at York this seemed to be one of his tasks on radar. Better communication. Like folks waiting on a delayed airplane all we would like is a little info. Not that we are owed anything but it certainly does go a long ways for customer relations.

That said I really hope the Lionel rep was wrong about the November release date. Unless with a fix they are adding a lot of add-ons. Even then a little info would be nice.

To put this nicely, you can’t take what the Lionel reps tell you too seriously, they mean well and it’s not their fault, they give out info that has been told to them. Problem is the info may turn out to be false or inaccurate. The people with the magic wand change things so often that no news can be considered accurate from one day to the next.

Are we speaking of Legacy chips to upgrade an existing locomotive from basic TMCC to Legacy, or are we talking about chips to update the Legacy control system? Thanks.

Control System

marty, is the post a hoax telling us all to return our units to lionel to fix the bugs in first release of legacy units. I tried the web site listed but it goes no where for me how about you.

Sent my two LEGACY units to Ohio today. Return authorization number was above 8000500 so I’m guessing that Lionel has already issued over 500 RA’s.

it would be nice if we could drop units off at York in the fall

Nope…it’s for real. Here is a direct link. It’s under customer service.

Lionel Legacy Return Page

Does Lionel cover the cost of mailing the units to Ohio?

No

I’m sure glad that I am still waiting for them to work the bugs out before buying. [:)]

Mine works fine & have enjoyed it for months. Sent it in for the update anyway rather than wait.
