Legislators call on Army Corps to weigh in on BNSF double track proposal

I wish I had a better understanding of the politics in play here, because I am sure these two legislators don’t really care about the marsh. Why is the city of LaCrosse and its different entities and connections fighting this project so hard? Before this it was problems with the park department and a golf course as I recall…

Sure would like to see the purported political affiliation (D) (R) (I) (P) (S) of all politicians, pro/con/neutral, when their names are mentioned.

Since when is a marsh a "vital to sustaining a strong economy? Pure political obstructionism.

Lampman, check your lamp, man; you’re fuel has run out…
I’ve known for 65 years how “vital to sustaining a strong economy,” marshes, AKA, wetlands are.
vital.
Lampman, what animals do you want to notice that they’re gone?
and what benefits they gave us do you wish to sacrifice?
Their existence, that they are part of of the water system of the continent?
Insect control?
Easy access and maintenance for coastal barge and other vessels passages.
What do you want to lose?

I’m sure it has more to do with politics than ecology. The footprint of adding an additional track is not that great. Just the cost of doing business in Wisconsin. …

Anybody that has crossed the Mississippi River between Minnesota and Wisconsin realizes that this basin is almost 2 miles across. The Mississippi main river channel only occupies a small portion. One small strip of swamp filled in for an additional road bed would not affect any ecological balance by any means, nor would it affect any swimming, fishing, bird watching, or whatever, as it would be constructed next to an existing road bed. If the proposed additional main line were to be used for high speed rail, these same legislators wouldn’t have a problem. BNSF track running North and South out of La Crosse is already double track along the river, so you can see why they want to eliminate a “bottle neck”.
