Try to copy the link and past it in the address field.

Nope still no luck for me. This is what comes up: Error parsing querystring

I’m getting the same error report.

Eghhh. I simply copied the entire link into my browser. When it errors out does the address field match what’s in the post?

If you highlight the entire link (everything from http to 147) and copy it to your search bar it should work. It did for me.

Hi ModelTrainman:

If you’ll check what you typed in in your original message, you’ll find that you made an error when using the square brackets to indicate the URL. You can check the actual text of the message by quoting it in a reply, just to copy it to a new window, but if you follow along here, you won’t have to.

I’ll replace the square brackets with parentheses here, or else the system won’t type out what you did. It will instead interpret the instructions.

Here’s what you typed in:

(url=“http://mindstorms.lego.com/eng/inventions/invention.asp?id={7FE0AF8E-64D8-1FB3-6CBD-ED1DA6288F41}&slotN=2&galleryid=417”)
http://mindstorms.lego.com/eng/inventions/invention.asp?id={7FE0AF8E-64D8-1FB3-6CBD-ED1DA6288F41}&slotN=2&galleryid=417(/url)

What happened was that the system missed the first instruction because it didn’t have the other square bracket. It should have been (url) with no equals sign or quote. Remember I’m substituting parenthese for square brackets. So it ignored it. When it saw the http characters, it started to interpret what followed as a URL but truncated after the equals sign.

The problem is that http is a command, and is not actually part of the URL. In this case the URL starts with the word mindstorms. You’ve combined two methods of indicating a URL to the forum software, and it made mistakes. If you drop the http part from the first try, (also the quotes) and finish out with the (/url) tag, things will work better, and the URL won’t be truncated. Like this:

(url)mindstorms.lego.com/eng/inventions/invention.asp?id={7FE0AF8E-64D8-1FB3-6CBD-ED1DA6288F41}&slotN=2&galleryid=417(/url)

except you’ve got to change the parentheses to square brackets. I realize that you’ve got that “change the parentheses” part down by now, but I’ve got some experience in technical writing, so I tend to err on the side of caution.

Which is what I just did to put that URL here:

I just copied and pasted in the link into the URL box and it worked fine for me.

BTW, neat looking loco!

Modeltrainman,
When adding a link to a post, you do not have to use the url tags… just copy and paste
the address to your post … like so:
