Im just wondering if anyone here takes lego trains seriously.
I got a kit from my wife for Christmas. I have always liked lego’s so the train was cool. I let my 3 year old play with it so she doesn’t come after my HO trains. I plan on using it for my under the tree set. I just wish it had better speed control.

After seeing what a kid magnet the LEGO layout was at the last show I attended I decided that if it gets kids instested in trains it has to be good. After all many of use scale modelers started with toy trains (Lionel or Flyer) that got us instested in trains.

As a serious modeller for 30 years plus, I’m taking it very seriously, just try building something that looks like the real thing and you find out how hard it is! The newish Santa Fe Super Chief trains are a work of art!, and I speak as a non Santa Fe fan,

There is a LEGO LAND, in CALIFORNIA,somewhere,but I don’t have there web site,we have four (4) grown men, that setup a real large lego train layout at most of our trains show,they have things running, that I would like to buy but they have it & tis not made any more,Like a sky ride, that would wok very good on out O-GUAGE layout,may email,is HUBTRAINS@HOTMAIL.COM,I will try & get hold of the LEGO PEOPLE, I you wish.
I would not consider it serious for model railroading, But for those who like to make realistic LEGO models.
I think they’re great. I have the old Lego Metroliner (actually more of a AEM-7ish NEC train) and I run it around once in a while. I got it back when I was in middle school and it’s been with me ever since. The lego locomotive actually runs smoother than some of my older HO equipment!
My little brother, now in middle school himself, has some sort of lego shinkansen-like set and it’s getting him started in HO scale.
I really think the biggest draw of the Lego trains is not for pure perfect to-scale modeling or for absolutely realistic operations, but they sure are fun and introduce many new people into the hobby. I’d share my layout room with a Lego train any day, if there was only room for it haha.

I skipped over Brio, too, as a kid. Went right to Lionel O-gage at age three. I remember back then my twin cousins had the Brio’s and I couldn’t understand why they were playing with wood “baby toys” and not “real” trains.
But…
I’m for whatever it takes to get youngsters and new blood at any age into the hobby!
my son loves his Lego trains, when we go railfanning he instructs me how to take pictures so that he can recreate the trains he sees with his Lego
I love LEGO trains, and my 11 year old son does too. They are very different from scale trains, but no less fun. They allow a different type of creativity, and I know a group of adults that are very serious about them.
I actually was looking over the lego sight, a few days before this topic showed up, and their train stuff, you could realistically make a complete layout with what they have. Since they have turnouts and crosses you can have some very complex track plans. Only thing lacking is the ability to use DCC on them, although i’m sure someone will figure a way soon.
