Lehigh & Keystone Valley RR

This model RR is in the September 2013 issue of Model Railroader.

This article must have been done two years before it was actually published…

It does not show anything about the new extension with the town of Quakertown PA which is at least 20 foot long or so.

They fail to mention that the club has sponsors such as the local electric utility in which they don`t have to pay for electric.

They also don`t mention that one of their members is a PA state representative that secured grant monies for the club.

I think it would be nice if an article is done for a club that it be at least up to date with its info.

And also they are now known as the Lehigh & Keystone Model Railroad Museum…for tax purposes.

I had a personal tour of the layout last January and it was a sight to behold ! This layout should definitely be on anyone’s list of “must see layouts” if you are ever in the area.

Dennis,

They mentioned that they have business sponsors(the flat car train with business cards for example). And one of the pictures shows the sign with ‘…museum’ on the logo. They cannot get everything in an article.

Anything good to say about the article?

I used to be a member there, back in the days when we lost our home. That was the second time they had to move, the first time, I know why but I’ll not go into that. The second time, during my membership period, was because the landlord decided to triple the rent after we had a significant amount of stuff built, on the premise that after putting all this work into something (and the benchwork is built to last - mostly 2x4 full frame wall construction), there’s no way we’d move, we’d just pay what he asked. He failed to estimate the resolve of a bunch of guys armed with Sawzalls. Down it came and what was salvageable went into storage until the current location was secured. Some other old timers in the block where we used to be didn;t like the tactics of our landlord much either - whenever he saw prospective tenants looking at the building, he’d be sure to go over and relate to them our story. The building stood empty for a long time. It’s been occupied for years now, but I don’t know if the building is owned by the same guy or he sold it out of frustration.
