Lenz & Easy DCC owners programming Tower 55

Are the owners of Lenz and Easy DCC having troubles reprogramming the new sound Tower 55 engines

BOB H - Clarion, PA

So, from the lack of replys to this thread I can deduce that: NO ONE owns an Easy DCC or a Lenz DCC system! or NO ONE owns TOWER 55 engines or NO ONE has any trouble programming the engine numbers or other CV’s So which one is it? BOB H - Clarion, PA

Well there are at least two people on these forums with Easy-DCC, so maybe they don;t have any Tower55 locos. I do know the current releases are too new a prototype to be used on one of those Easy-DCC user’s layout.

I have Lenz set 100 and BLI loco’s, I had trouble programming when I first got them, but a 20ohm resistor in series with the programme track fixed that.

Ken.

You might like to pose your question on one of the Yahoo email groups that deal with either Lenz or Easy DCC. I’m not a member of either but there has been considerable discussion on the difficultly of programming these locos on a NCE system on the NCE group.

As I don’t have one and don’t plan to get one for a while I can’t answer your question any further.

Tim

E-Z command does not supprt programming.

Easy Command and Easy DCC are two different products from two different companies.

Easy Command is Bachmann while Easy DCC is CVP.

The Tower 55 engine’s use Digitrax FX decoders. I have seen issues with trying to program Digitrax decoders on a Lenz system using a handheld throttle. I know that programming them with a computer interface has no problem. I don’t know if this will help. I have seen issues with programming Digitrax decoders on a Lenz system (with the LS100 throttle or something like that) I don’t own a lenz system so I’m not sure what the designation of the throttle you can use to program with.

Oh, sorry. I am so used to people on the bachmann forum calling it ez-dcc so much I thought it was what you meant.

Does the sound quit when the engine speed is brought down to zero. It has been reported that the NCE systems are running into this problem If the train is running and then is brought to a stop (like a momentary station stop) the sound will stop after a few seconds BUT once the speed is brought back up then the sound begins again. Are any Lenz or Easy DCC owners experiencing this problem? BOB H - Clarion, PA

That’s actually a feature so you don’t have a whole layout full of un-addressed locos making noises. As long as you have the loco selected on a throttle, even with the speed set to 0, Digitrax command stations periodically refresh the loco by sending a packet to that address. So the sounds never stop. As soon as you deselect (dispatch) the loco from your Digitrax throttle, the packets stop and so do the sounds. Other systems do not keep sending the keepalive packets, when you set speed to 0, they send a speed 0 packet and that’s it, no more packets unless you trigger a function or change speed. . There is a CV setting that can be done to the Digitrax sound decoders to disable the shutdown, or just lengthen the timeout.

I have a LZV100 Lenz Station with LH100 but my Tower 55 loco received few days ago doesn’t work ! When I put it on tracks it shouts like a scratched record at full blast, doesn’t move forward nor backward !!! All registered sounds succeed without stopping very quickly…! It’s same in DC or DCC… Am I the only one who has a defective Tower 55 loco ? When I told that to my retailer He told me that Tower 55 doesn’t answer to his mail… What can I do ? I don’t live in USA … Otherwise, what are you thinking about Tower 55 Quality ? Michel

Understandable, Nataraj. That’s why I try and differentiate it as E-Z Command and EasyDCC.

Tom

Put it on the program track and program CV08 to 08, this will reset the decoder.

Since you have a Lenz system - what is your track voltage? With stock Lenz components the default voltage on the rails is often 19V - this is WAY too much for HO scale. Some decoders can be damaged by this. There is a configuration setting to lower the track voltage in the LZV100.

rrinker - I did it several times but without success : it’s impossible to write something in CV and the voltage on the rails is 16V… I think I have received a very, very bad model ! :+(( Michel
