Let's see your Atlas Tuntable

am about to add some finishing touches to my Atlas Turntable.
Problem is I have no idea what it should look like in a prototypical operation.
Has anyone detailed and weathered theirs on their layout ?
How about some pictures.

Hi, Vin. Not sure if this will help or not. I used a Kato turntable instead of Atlas, and mine is supposed to be in Japan. But, I’d bet that turntables, wherever they were, were pretty grimy and industrial looking, at least during the steam era.

Thanks Don,
I guess what I am really interested in is what the Atlas Turntable itself should look like.
Because it is a wooden raised table I am sure it needs to be weathered a grayish color.
Does any one have a color combination or method for airbrushing wooden platforms to weather them?

I have an Atlas but I’m thinking of dumping it for something else.

  1. it’s an obscure prototype: very few turntables were decked (only in heavy snow country I believe, and long ago)

  2. it’s small

  3. it’s cheesy: big brass nut in the middle, plasticky construction…

I’m going to either scratchbuild one or lash out on a quality kit. A turntable is a central feature. everyone is going to be looking at it.

Malcolm Furlow used an Atlas turntable back in the 80s, and made it look pretty good. I guess if you use one you are in stellar company

There was an article in one of the mags a few centuries ago where the guy used the atlas turntable mounted under the layout to drive a sratchbuilt turntable on the layout. Pretty nifty idea.

If you check out my Webshots album you’ll see my Home made turntable. Still needs handrails and a drive mechanism but I’m close.

Regards
