Level for measuring track incline

Rather than calculate the percent slope of a track, wouldn’t it be nice to have a bubble level that would do it for us? If you have an iPod Touch or an iPhone, there’s a handy ap that will do that. Look in the Productivity section of the iTunes Ap Store for iHandy Level. Best of all it’s free. I’ve got it on my iPod touch and calibrated it against my long carpenter’s level. I just lay it on the track and it displays the degree of slope along with a bubble level. An extremely useful tool.

Gee, if it will do all that, and presumably more, will it also light your cigar afterward, Bob? [8D]

Thanks for sharing that with us. [:)]

I don’t have/want/need any costly iStuff. I’ll stick with my $25 Sears Craftsman electronic level. It shows angles as a ratio of inches to feet, degrees of angle, and best of all, percentages. There is no bother or math error converting degrees of angle to percentages.

But thanks anyway. I’m sure lots of people will be able to use your suggestion.

Micro-Mark has one advertised on page 38 of the current MR for those who don’t have iPod or iPhone.

What we really need is an I something that sorts out the vertical transition curves at each end of the grade. Now that would be impressive!

Better still an i thingy that cleans track and wheels!

I heard that an iThingy will be released later this year.
