Hi All,
I have an LGB mogul (model 23191) with a fried pcb, at least as far as I can tell. There is still power to the motor but the front headlight and fire flicker do not turn on and the tender light stays on regardless of direction. I have tried to find a replacement pcb online but haven’t been able to. I was wondering if the group could give me advice on what to do. Ideally, I could just find a comparable replacement board and keep it an analog DC engine, though I am open to converting to battery.
I have seen dual mode dcc decoders that work on dc amd wondering if I may be able to replace the board with one of these. Alternatively, I have looked at the Blunami decoder, but am considering that a Cadillac level repair/upgrade.
Looking to the group here for wisdom, advice and pointers.
Hi Casey,
I suggest to go to the TrainLi website. They are a great source for LGB parts , they usually have what I need. It would be easiest to just buy a replacement PCB. To convert to DCC, some of the earlier engines may not be so easy to convert, as I understand it the DCC requires a 4 wire connection from the motor. If you contact, TrainLi, I’m sure they can give you better info on this, or you could have them work on it for you. You have many options.
I had acircuit board fail in a 1980’s vintage LGB engine. It was still running just fine, except it was drawing 4 Amps ! TrainLi had the part. Easy fix. It draws .4 amps when running now.

Thanks, Paul! I reached out to TrainLi today. We’ll see if they have a solution. I’ve disassembled the Mogul a bit, and happy to say the board does have four wires - 2 for track pickup and two for the motors. Hopefully that will make it a bit easier if I do need to get a dual mode decoder.
