I got the seperate drivetrain LGB was selling at the BTS 2 years ago. Havent quite decided what I’m going to bash it into, although a Mason Bogie using the Mylargescale masterclass blueprints is most likely.

I had hoped that they would have produced them in the Southern Railroad Green paint scheme , that would have been really nice .

I have been wondering what to do with about a dozen steamers , because I will not / do not , run them under the cat ! [:O] There would be something really , really , wrong with Sumpter Valley , Unitah , C&S , steamers under the cat ! [:O] Wish I could trade for electrics ?
I can and do , run my NYC & Conrail diesels under the cat , I have photos of the real ones under the cat .
I’ve got a huge fleet of 0 LGB products. They’re just the wrong size for me. Plus, since I prefer locos that not everyone has, I probably never will. Maybe some parts at some point for other projects but that’s about it.

Disappointed with rough operation on curves.
My LGB Forneys pull better than the Mogul, and way smoother at slow speeds, especially on curves.
I have 7 Forneys.
My favorite is the Mikado. Great puller, Looks good, sounds great and easily out pulls a couple Moguls.
Seems to me if you like Moguls, you must absolutely LOVE Forneys and Mikados.
I don’t have any moguls, though–like others above–if I could find one cheap enough, or a basket case with an operating motor block, I’ve got just the project for it. Dad’s got one on his roster, and it’s still a favorite on the passenger trains. We bought it when they first came out in the early/mid 80s. It quickly had a run in with a can of spray paint; that red boiler HAD to go! And like so many other railroads, when the Woodland Railway was featured in GR in the early 90s, guess which loco was on the front cover? Of course, I’ve no one to blame but myself for that–I took the darned photos! When it was featured again just a few years ago, I gave dad explicit instructions–NO MOGULS!
When I did the convention video for the 1994 garden railway convention in Denver, almost every railroad I shot had a mogul. That blasted sound system got so ingrained in my head that I was hearing that stupid whistle in my sleep. That summer, I rode the Durango & Silverton. Upon stepping off the train in Silverton, guess what I heard!!! Sure enough, a toy shop a few blocks down from the station had one running on an overhead track that darted out in front of the store, blowing its whistle as it exited the building. It took a few years of therapy, but I think I’m over it now. [:)]
I think if there were a “locomotive hall of fame” for large scale models, the mogul would be first in the class. I think it did more to popularize this hobby than any other locomotive.

Well lets see, I have 6 moguls, 2 forneys, 1 mikado, 2 alco’s, 1 unitah mallet, 1 sumpter valley mallet, 1 F7A & B, 4 2-4-0’s, 1 0-4-0, 1 CAT switcher, 1 track cleaner diesel, I think thats it on my LGB’s… I love them all very much, great runners, great sound, great pullers, great looking, etc…
I have just one - the #24194 in B&O markings. Had squeaky drive gear about 20 minutes out of the box but LGBoA San Diego did their magic. Came back running extra smooth and handles R2 (5’ dia) curves with no complaints or noise. Pulls a consist of the 38800’s series (Chinese-made) B&O passenger cars (upgraded with metal ball bearing wheels and interior lighting). It looks good to me, sounds great, and runs smoothly. Have never tried to test its pulling power since it is permanently assigned to light passenger service [;)].

I have the C&S #7 beartrap mogul and the new MTS equipped Coke mogul.
Plus the Mogul drive unit for spare parts if needed. Gears are $60, motor is $50 and the drive unit was only $130.00
Note that the drive unit does have the special LGB sensors for speed.
