All model railroaders please note…
Owing to recent litigation between model railroad producers and certain railroad corporations concerning licensed use of railroad trade marks, as from 01/01/05 it will be necessary for all modellers to register and gain a license to operate if they model the following railroads… UP, CSX, NS and BNSF. (Applicable to O, HO, N, Z, LGB and all deviations including HOn3, etc.) The license will only be issued if the modeller can demonstrate that the model adheres to all rules and regulations and codes of practice as used on the prototype. If the model does not comply, then the modeller will be given 30 days to re-apply. If the model fails to conform to the standard, then the modeller will be required to dismantle the model. Alternatively, the modeller may create a freelanced railroad which will not require a license. A license will also be required if the model railroader model a #8217;fallen flag#8217; railroad that is now owned by a railroad that was subsequently bought by UP, CSX, NS or BNSF. However, it should be noted that if the railroad has not been in existence after 1927 then the license is not required.
As stated previously, models of #8216;fallen flag#8217; railroads do not require a license. However, trackside buildings, facilities, signals, signs, scenery and people are required to be licensed if any of these items are based upon the design, blueprint, look or image of any trackside buildings, facilities, signals, signs and people that are owned or employed by UP, CSX, NS or BNSF or their subsidiaries or #8216;fallen flag#8217; railroads after 1927. A licensing authority will be set up prior to 01/01/05 and all model railroaders will be informed of the date of the licensing board#8217;s visit to their railroad and subsequent application for the appropriate licenses.
Thank you.
(Gosh!)
I hope this is a gag. The only thing that will result in if it is true is a boycott or model railroading black markets.
I’ll have you know that I’ve talked to GOD and he told me that I could Model people (without a license) since he was the creater. But if you are interested in modeling the “Almost Nothing” of which I am the brass hat, the fee will be 1/2 million pieces of white sand deposited on the beachs of TEXAS every year!!! Those so inclined, please send me an e-mail so we can get these beaches cleaned up. While I’m thinking about it I also have a bridge for sale. It goes into Manhatten (N Y city) from Brooklyn and is dirt cheap. As the country and western song once said I’ve also got some ocean front property in Arizona (who wants it?). The property is in a great place to watch the UP trains going nowhere. No kidding now, but last winter the wife anjd I went out to LA to see the kids for Christmas and I was amazed at how many trains their were just sitting with no one around. This one couldn’t move because of the one in front of it and so on.
Have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY
Bob
If this is true then I have one thing to say to them. BITE ME!! They have to catch me first.[:D]
Jeremy
Relax Juby! I’m sure it’s just a gag. [:D]
Just a gag about a topic that is getting overplayed too much, leaving forum members weary and increasingly bitter.[V]
Forget it,[:D][:D][:D]smile[:D][:D][:D]
Ahhhh… don’t you know a gag when you see one? Lighten up! It’s a JOKE!
(Read ‘From the Editor’ by Terry Thompson in the September MR.)
I am the UP GOD, and I heard that[:)][:)][:)]
Well, we haven’t had anyone start a new “Bash [INSERT NAME HERE]” thread in days. Did you think they were just going to go away? Maybe when school starts again…
Wayne
LOL, for once I didn’t fall for it.
This is funny.
well i guess i got togo apply for a UP licens, lol i would if i had to.
You guys only have the tip of the iceberg. Beyond the licensing requirement put forth in this thread, you must also have all your equipment inspected and given the OK for operation by both State and Federal agencies before applying for a license to operate. You will find the State and Federal fees for obtaining the necessary licenses to operate to be quite reasonble in cost. In fact, rumor has it that Horizon Models is about to strike a deal that will give them exclusive control of all licensing functions regarding model railroads.
I am considering the option of switching to monorail operations to squeeze through a loophole in the licensing laws and regulations.

You just couldn’t wait until April Fools day, couln’t cha?
Model railroader humor with a new twist, what will come next?
This is a Joke…We are the Borg…you will surrender the joke source you call
Humour or you will be taken by Borg Collective which by chance models Conrail.
hahahahaha
I hope this is a gag. So say if i modled CSX i would have to make my locomotives look like they need new paint beacuse the paint is so faded and chipping.
Actually, if one buys a piece of model railroad equipment decorated for a railroad requiring a license from a manufacturer that pays licensing fees to the actual railroad, then the modeler is indirectly getting a license to model that railroad.
Where can I get my $50.00 license fee back. Also, does this mean i can lift the red flag on my MOW train for not having fusees on board the loco.
What a Crock, but pretty well thought out, good for a few laughs, we can allways use a good laugh.
Mac
Although I don’t model UP (etc.) I can say that due to construction, my railroad looks a lot like UP with trains parked everywhere with nothing moving…
Enjoy! Great post!
I’m glad that’s not true. According to that if I was modelling CN, I would have to get my stuff into accidents frequently. I don’t have the money to replace my rollingstock every week. They just don’t make disposible model railroad products.
