There isn’t any room in the engine to put even a small DCC decoder, so you’ll have to permanently couple a freight car to it. If you use a freight car with metal wheels, you can improve th electrical pickup at the same time. That would help it out a lot.

There are some locomotives, such as your saddle tank switcher, that are just not worth the time and effort trying to find a way to install DCC.

Mark Watson, over on the Trainboard forum, posted several threads on how he “ultimated” his 0-6-0: installed decoder, remotored, added headlight, improved gearing, etc.
