Life-Like N scale E-8/9 A-B diesel locomotive set
On my home layout, I have an E8A that runs perfectly. I would also like to comment on its excellent slow speed control.
I have fitted Digitrax DZ125s to mine. A little filing to run the red & black leads to the copper strips and Kapton tape to insulate the motor was all that was needed. The decoder easily fits in the cab - no problem on the B unit. An excellent puller and much cheaper than the Kato Version. My pair are in U.P. colors and pull the City of Los Angeles up quite steep grades no problem
I bought an AB set in B&O paint scheme at the Greenberg show in NJ this year. I agree that with the above comments and would like to add the cost was very reasonable. They are hefty units and look, run and feel alot more expensive. I also have the Kato 8 and it is true that you often get what you pay for (there is no LED in the A unit and you’ll have to replace the couplers) but with a little modification these Life Like models fit in well with the rest of my fleet. Time will tell as they age but I think they make a reasonable addition and step in the right direction for Life Like. Buy them!
