Can anybody tell me how to remove the boiler assembly from the underframe?
Hello
If you Email Walthers support they will respond. I asked the same ? about the 0-6-0. and got a four page detailed letter. If its like the 0-6-0 than your ready for an adventure.

Thank you for the response, Pete. I’ve e-mailed them.
Gool luck…even I cringe.

Some time ago I received the following instructions from support
at Life Like Canada when my 0-8-0 was shorting out.
The 0-8-0 locomotives can be a tricky little unit to take apart. We have
found that on some units the solder joint pierces the tape which separates
the solder joint to the chassis.
To remove the shell, follow the procedure:
- remove screw for coupler/wire harness
- remove flat head screw under wire harness
- Loosen the 2 screws that attach the front articulation assembly (the 2
outer screws) - REMOVE the middle screw which secures the shell
- remove the grabs at the rear, they should pop out
- lift the shell from the rear up, so it is on an angle
- slide forward (requires a minimal amount of force)
- to remove the articulation assembly, remove the rods on the 3rd axle
using a flat head screw driver to pry up. - remove the screws from step 3
- slide forward.
The rest should be fairly simple. You will have to take apart the chassis
halves to get the tape, which is located at the FRONT of the motor on
the bottom.
Oh. Before removing the shell, pry off the front cover where the light is.
If I were to do it again, I think I would take some photos along the way
to make sure everything is put back where it belongs.
Have fun.
