This locomotive was a bit of a let down. Although the drive is smooth & quiet, the detail leaves a lot to be desired, and I felt the sound quality is really lacking.

For me the detail is very good, QSI sound very good as usual, and excelent slow speed.

I have run this locomotive for over a year, and am less than thrilled with its performance. An SW8 is designed primarily for yard work; but this engine frequently stalls on turnouts. The problem resides in the short wheelbase, and the traction tires. Because of the locomotive’s light weight, Life Like felt the need to include traction tires…effectively making this a 3-axle current pickup engine. Walthers has generously offered to provide a non-traction tired wheelset to replace the one with tires. Too bad the locomotive doesn’t run better…it does everything else well.
