Has anybody tried the new HO Life-Like S-1 Alco switcher? Is it worth purchasing? I’m NOT a fan of Proto 2000 stuff. I love Atlas and Kato though.
I have not but MR did a review on the Atlas S-1 May 98.
You probably have seen the Dec 01 Mr Review on the Lifelike, but they do have a lifetime limited warranty.
My friend has a new one, I just ran it last week. It has a very smooth start & stop while operating. I ran it slowly, I don’t think it runs really really fast though. Seemed like a nice engine. (He keeps his tracks very clean too.) I’m an Atlas guy myself, but I do have 2 Proto2000, a GP-30 and an SD-60. I can tell you that the SD60 is a real bull. It can pull a very long train without stalling, and it’s a real heavy engine. Life-Like puts alot of weight in them, good traction. They run smooth, but I do rely on Atlas mostly. If you are looking into the Proto2000, they are all DCC ready. You probably already know that though. Go ahead and buy one! Later, Pete
I ran one of these engines at the club the other day.It is one of the best switch engines I ever seen made.I simply love it. Am going to do one in PRR.Not to debate you,The only type of engines I buy is Atlas,Athearn and P2K. I will not buy any thing else.Again this is my perference in engines.Oops!I also have 2 walthers GP15s,the only non atlas athearn or P2K locomotives I own.
Thank you all for your input. As a foot note, I would be using it on a 10 foot shelf layout so speed is not important.
