Who loves Proto 2000 engines?

God bless you and merry Christmas, Alan

Alan,

I already commented on your other thread over on the Layout forum. Yep, count me in on liking Proto 2000s. [tup][tup]

Yes, very heavy pulls a lot of cars. Great detail. Lots of parts to put on, kinda a pain to do it. Joe A.[#ditto]

P2K has come a long way since those early BL2s and FAs. I have many from the SD7s, GP 7/9s, Es to SD50s. The drives have become much smoother and the detail is top notch. The cracked gear issue turned many off for some time. I had no problem with replacing any cracked gears, was a simple repair and the service was/ is still great.

The Es and SD 50s are unbelievable pullers. My only gripe is the P2K gearing of the month club. Just wish they would go to 14:1 and end it.

80% of my equipment is newer Atlas and Stewart (F unit) and believe them to be superior in the drive and overall reliability, all my Protos are the next best runners and equal or surpass others in detail.

A very happy customer…

I wish they would improve the traction on their Heritage steamers without resorting to traction tires, but aside from that, they almost are peerless. The detail spanks the others, and they run silky smooth. Reliably, too.

Walthers, please figure out how to get another half-ounce of traction on them.

Selector,

So true, my PM Berkshire is such a smooth runner and has excellent detail, but doesn’t pull for beans.

I also have a Berkshire, one of the early models without the traction tire. It is delegated only to run on the one track that has no incline, otherwise this engine is next to useless. But it certainly is nice to look at.
