Thanks to the folks on this forum, I finally managed to get this engine’s wiring harness/cable figured out (Thanks for nothing, Walthers). Put in some jumpers and once on the test track, after a few runs to loosen up, the engine now runs fairly well. Using Dextron, lubed the bearings and that portion is good.
Now, I would like to see what the lubrication on the geartrain looks like…However, there is nothing in any of the paperwork that hints at how to gain access to the inside of the loco. I see a screw in the smokestack, and there are 4 or 5 screws on the engine’s underside, which seem to have something to do with the ‘pan’ between the drivers.
I’m uncertain if it should be necessary to pull the boiler off, so I’m spending more time looking at that ‘pan’ . Has anyone had occasion to open one of these units?
