Does anyone know the voltage rating for the headlight bulb on a Lifelike Proto1000/Proto2000 locomotive. I have tried 12 volts, but that seems to be too high, the bulb will not turn on. Thank you.

Are you sure you have a good bulb and that it is properly connected? Except for a mars light, they should be rated for 12 Volts. Another possibility is that a diode or resistor has burned out on the constant lighting board, although this is rare.
Unless I’m completely mistaken, which I may be, the bulbs for the P2k/P1k will be 1.5-3.0 volt. With the diode packs in the light board, they use low voltage lamps for the constant directional lighting. A 12v lamp probably won’t even light on the circuitry.

so thats why the lights whent out when I plugged in to dcc
I miss the lights
I did post a light circut with only 3 parts last year

Yes, the light bulb works, that’s the first thing I checked. Sounds to me like the second reply (1.5 - 3.0 volts) is correct. Time to go to Caboose in Denver and buy replacement bulbs.
Thank you for the replies.

I’ve put enough decoders in Proto’s to know they are 1.5-3.0 volts. Did the bulb just burn out or did it blow out putting in a decoder?
