Light kit for Lionel Station Platform 6-12731?

I have a Lionel Station Platform (6-12731) to which I would like to add lights. (The more expensive version comes illuminated.) The roof has two molded “sockets” for attaching the light units. I searched Google and eBay but found nothing. Does anyone know where I can get a pair of stock lights to upgrade this station platform?

Thanks,

Bill

Have you tried getting some small lights with long wires from your local hobby shop? There are some H.O. scale lights that may work. Then you will need to run one wire up the inside of the supports on each side to get power from under the platform. Most likely you will have to make something to fit or buy the platform already lighted.

A local Radio Shack may have a “small electronic parts” selection, usually a metal bureau of slide out drawers with labels showing what each contains. You’ll probably find a nice assortment of light sockets, bulbs, screws, wires, nuts, clips, switches and indicator lights to create your own lighting arrangement.

I have used 4 clear Christmas Tree lamps/bulbs to light this platform. The roof will glow brightly with any unshaded lights added.

Micro Mark sells “grain of wheat” (or maybe it’s “grain of rice” bulbs) also. I use them to light structures with.

There are some small fluorescent lamps out there. The lampholder is like a small fuse clip. Take a look at the site below. I saw a presentation at a recent NMRA region meeting where a fellow had done just such an upgrade to an old Lionel station platform. He was promoting these. A nice looking effect.

How are those working for you? I was thinking about getting those to light my Lionel station platform that I going to use for the elevated fastrack that I’m adding so I can run my Williams, Peter Witt streetcar. Can I run them off the accessory on the transformer?

Bill, I put LED light’s on my station platform. I wired them to fit where the conventional lights would go. It took a little doing, but I got them to work the way I wanted.

life like makes these stick on lights…i added 2 to mine and they light it up really nice…its a grain of wheat bulb on a socket with an adhesive backing on it…
