Light rail line opens to Salt Lake City International Airport
Congrats to Salt Lake. The US so needs to provide viable rail transportation - light and heavy, as fits the case - between its urban cores and airports. This is another good example. Maybe we’ll finally stop talking about doing this in Pittsburgh and actually follow suit.
The only thing to clarify here is that those 14,000 passengers won’t all be going to the airport but will be users in the North Temple corridor visiting restaurants, hotels and business along that section of the line. Maybe a thousand people a day using the line all the way, to and from the airport is more realistic.
One things is true, TRAX has been a huge success in Salt lake City.
Congrats to UTA, TRAX and FrontRunner! They run a class act.
Perhaps some day the Abq/SFe area will have the economy and population to reach such a service level.
Perhaps Goosie can see that!
Census Bureau statistics show that Salt lake City is the 50th largest metro area in the nation. They are well ahead of a couple dozen or so of their peers. They have gone full circle to provide rail service; intercity, commuter, and local rail transit, and bringing service to the airport brings up a notch better. Say goodbye to the toll hogs!
year 2030 projections? that is so far in the future it’s laughable. what are the first year, 3 and 5 year projections?
Great! I like light rail. Ride it all the time. Now if I could just get to SLC before 11pm or after 3am.
Good news for travelers to SLC.
It would have been good to have a picture of the equipment being used and maybe an overall system map.
