Lighting a Williams FA-2

Howdy all:

First of all, thanks so much for all of the great information! I’m relatively new to the hobby (other than playing with my father’s pre and post-war Lionel sets as a child).

Now for my question. I’m adding additional lighting to my Williams PRR Tuscan FA-2, by replacing the headlight and lighting the number panels. I’m curious about the portholes along the side of the FA-2, and the porthole on the tail end of the engine. These are clearly in the engine room, but my question is whether these were lit during normal operation – I would think that lights in the engine room would be on, but I can’t find any photos.

So, any thoughts on whether I should add illumination to these portholes?

Thanks so much!

Easy answer is yes/no as yes they were sometimes as they were doing work back there but not always

As a kid when I rode the Pennsy , I remember seeing light in some of the port holes and others completely dark.
