lighting on decoder

Hi,

I am installing LED’s on a Digitrax DH165KO decoder on an older Kato C-424. I can get the front ones to work but not the rear. I can’t seem to decipher the booklet on how to do this. The x’s are where the front ones work if connected there but the (blue/FOR) doesn’t work when I try to connect there. Otherwise the decoder works fine as to speed and direction. Resetting doesn’t help. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

Tom.

Could the LED be hooked up backwards? This is the most common problem with hooking up LEDs.

Pete

I know what you mean.I tried it both ways. No go.

Thanks

Tom.

I took a closer look at the diagram. The pads with the Xs are FOF. They may not come on in reverse. Or they may be configured to always on or off.

Pete

Pete,

The forward lights stay on when in forward AND reverse. But still nothing from the rear in either direction. Could it be a CV that has to be changed?

Tom

Set CV49 and CV50 both to 0, that will be the setup for normal directional headlights. If the one is staying on in both forward and reverse then the settings have been changed. You can also reset the entire decoder by setting CV8 to 8, but that will also reset the address to 3 and remove any other settings you may have changed.

I did as you suggested but there was no change. I’m wondering if there is a cut somewhere on the board . However it is way to small for me to see. I can’t get my multimeter in there to test that theory.

But thanks for the reply.

Tom

Did you install the decoder yourself?

Take a look at the below Digitrax document.

Rich

I installed it. It is installed exactly as the Dixitrax manual shows it. Maybe the decoder itself is defective.
