Is it normal for the lights and sound to remain on even though the engines are not selected with the DT400? I have a SEB and when I power on the unit, the unselected engines will still have the lights on and the engine will make air release and other sounds. There is no movement with the unselected units. Thanks for your help.
Which decoder? They all work differently in this respect.

These are all N scale. Tsunami 750, Digitrax 163MO, Not sure about Athearn Challenger or Atlas V1000. Thanks for your help.
Yes.

Yes, the the lights will remain on if you leave them on.
Some sound decoders have a timeout feature (like the Tsunami) which will mute the loco after a while. You are out of luck with the MRC decoder (Athearn Big Boy) it will always make noise unless you mute it.
The Digitrax decoders, you just turn the lights off…
All of the above can be found in the documentation that has come with your decoders or decoder equipped loco.

Sound decoders generally give you an option to choose if the lights and sounds are on any time there is track power, or only are on when the engine is “selected” by your system. You’ll have to check the decoder instructions to see how to change the particular CV for each type of decoder. It usually just changing a CV from “0” to “1” or something like that.
