Line through Groton to Electric Boat?

Anyone know if the rail line through Groton that runs through the Pfizer compound and on to electric boat is in service?

I think so – Providence & Worcester – but I’m not sure at all.

“Electric boat” ?? [D)] - a. s.

Electric Boat is one of the two companies that are currently in the business of building submarines, of the Virginia (SSN-774) Class, (Rather unfair as this class makes TWO nuclear powered classes of ship named after the state of Virginia.) and provides support for the shoddy Los Angeles (SSN-688) class submarines.

The company has been around since the early days of submarine construction.

The line that you speak of is of the Providence and Worcester (P&W) Railroad. It runs along the Thames River through Groton, through the USS Nautilus (SSN-571) museum, divides the subbase into the operations portion and the support portion, up along the river, up to the north.

The New England Central Railroad runs along the tracks on the opposite side of the river.

I have been stationed at the sub base in Rotten Groton for almost 3 and a half years. I love watching the P&W trains, but I hate the area.

I do not know if said line is still in use, but I know that some of phizer’s old locomotives can be found at the Eastern CT RR Museum in Williamantic, CT, which is outside of the “suck zone” that surrounds the Groton area.
