Broadway Limited is issuing sound-equipped HO M1A and B Mountains. What railroads operated Mountains?
Broadway Limited sounds like an organization that might be focused on the Pennsylvania Railroad. They ran Mountains (4-8-2 wheel arrangement ) designated Class M1 and perhaps M1A, etc. I couldn’t begin to list here all the railroads I know of that ran 4-8-2s but you could name just about any major railroad of the steam era and safely say that they had them.
Back again. There are 19 photos of PRR Mountains on the Fallen Flags website. Here’s a link to one of them
Oops! Maybe it’s not a good idea to include links in these discussion forums — I notice the link I just posted in the previous message doesn’t show up. There’s probably a good reason for it.
I think the fact that the engines being issued already have a class designation limits them to one specific prototype…probably Pennsy. If they have Belpaire fireboxes (squared off at the top) you’ll find precious few railroads other than PRR that used engines like that, with any wheel arrangement.
Thank you all. I am discovering that the Broadway Limited model was exclusively a PRR model.
this same topic is on the Model Railroad part of the forum
a few railroads used the Belpaire firebox other than PRR – Great Northern probably the best known. But none of their stuff looked much like a Pennsy Mountain!
