Links for link and pin couplings???

hi guys

Has any one out there made coupling links out of brass wire,or bronzing rod??.

If so how did you do it and how did you get the bar in the coupling link.

Have only seen white metal links comercialy made and I don’t think they would cope with a 4" Jarrah log for a load.

I have used brass rod, the thin wirelike stuff, and use a needle nose pliers to form them. Due to my tight curves I bend mine into a dogbone shape and have had no troubles. They are not exactly typical of what one thinks of for links but I have seen these dogbone links in pictures from railroads in the Andes in South America.

Sounds like for what you want your going to have to solder them together from brass rod.

Sounds like I might have to have a talk to a friend with a home workshop and get a bending bar machiened up.

So they are all the same when they get bent up before silver soldering them.

I just use flat brass and drill a hole in each end and round off the ends a bit. Some I bend, to match a particular loco/car. Jerry
