Lionel 1001T Scout tender rear truck

I picked up a 6110 engine and 1001T Scout tender. Has a rear truck I’ve never seen before. Home made?

It has your Scout truck on it. Someone just added a regular coupler to it so you could pull the normal cars. That was a common practice back then.

Looks like your tender has a 480-25 Magnetic Coupler Conversion Unit installed to it.

See page 665 of the Greenberg’s repair and operating Manual 7th edition

Like RT said it was a common attachment to Scout sets.

Still easy to find.

I have always liked the 6110. I was given one as a kid, plus it has a unique smoke system.
As far as I have been able to determine, the 6110 did not come in a Scout set.
It came in one 1950 set, #1461S.
The tender was a 6001T plastic tender, 6002 gondola, 6004 boxcar, and 6007 caboose.
The tender and cars all came with hybrid trucks, which consisted of Scout style trucks (sheet metal frame with plastic side pieces) and conversion couples.

So the Scout tender did not ever come with a 6110. But I think this one will stay with it. If I ever get some Scout cars(I have one), I’ll have something to pull them with!
