Lionel 1666

How do the 1666’s rate in the whole scheme of Lionel engines compared to the Hudsons and Berkshire’s? Thanks much, Jake

They are older, smaller, more toy-like. I think they’re nice little engines. Jim

If I remember correctly the 1666 was featured as a sleeper in the sleeper and duds article in CTT a few issues back.

I don’t have one but I’ve heard they’re excellent runners and I think they’re mechanically similiar to the postwar 2025/675 I believe. THese engines run like a top as well. A beautifully smooth drive train and motor.

My first reply was regarding the 1688 instead of the 1666. Wasn’t quite awake yet. The 1666 is a really nice engine. Very detailed and yes, known to be a silky smooth runner. The Marx 1666 was also a nice locomotive that had a great smoke unit. It was the plastic version of the die cast 666. Jim
