Hi everyone, I am kind of new 
to this. I have been watching this on Ebay. It is the second one that is being offered for sale and I really like it, but cannot find any info in the internet or here about it. Does anyone know anything about this engine? Please do not laugh, but I was thinking it would make a great engine to start my own Christmas train with. I do not know all the correct words to use to describe trains, let’s just say the “style” of this train is what I like. I just bought the Lionel Silver Bells G scale for Christmas and it is absolutely beautiful. I also have a rock island and peoria engine and 3 cars.

This is a remake of the same 4-4-0 American engine that Lionel has made since the 60’s. Forward and Reverse only. Most likly smoke, but to see any smoke, the engine wil be flying off the track. I don’t belive it has a bell or whistle. No sounds. Engine and tender is made of Plastic, no diecast. It doesn’t have much pulling power becasue of the gearing and lack of weight.

Thank you, I appreciate that information. I found two more today on Ebay that look just like this, also use term General, I assume they are the same type. Also price seems low, but if plastic that would account for the low prices. My Rock Island and Peroria is also a “General” and plastic, very light weight for its size, but seems to have no problem at all pulling the three passenger cars. And the engine is pretty beat up, cars also. They were not taken care of by previous owners. I was surprised it works as well as it does. It puts out a puff of smoke when you stop it!
i paid $170.00 for a new one a few years ago.
i bought a used set once for $150.00
if you find one for less than $100.00, consider that a good starting place.
they’ll pull 7 cars with a bit of wheelslip. they corner better than diecast.
i like the lionel version over the mth; even with all the bells and whistles.
on the newer models; repair parts are laughingly affordable: $6.00 for a new motor, $10.00 for a new smoke unit, and $1.00 for that nylon idler gear which is the only part to likely actually wear out, and only did so because someone put oil on it.
a whistling passenger car has been produced.
i have three and am tempted to buy more: better deals just keep coming!
