Lionel 1991 ABBA question

Hi model RailRoaders

I got a Lionel 1991 Santa Fe ABBA set that was never used.

I’ve attached a picture.

The problem that I am having Is when I use the Lionel CW80 which is attached to the Fastrack (There are 3 accessories running of the Fastrack) Is it is taking Full throttle to move it.

Is the ABBA draining too much power? Is the Lionel transformer that I have inadequate ?

Any advice that you can provide is greatly appreciated.

The picture doesn’t show up. Try running the locomotive with the accessories disconnected.

I suspect that ABBA with the older Pulmor motors is too much for the CW80. Upgrade the transformer. Not sure how many motors you are running but those old Pulmors pull a lot and with accessories and possible lighted cars you are taxing the CW-80.

Probably not, it is likely using(with your accessories) all 5 amps of the CW-80 available output. This would be evidenced by the green light flashing steadily or intermittently. The current draw by the diesel will go down over time after it’s broken in & lubricated properly.

It really is for that locomotive set.

I see Roger still won’t reply online.

What the other guys said. The CW-80 just won’t cut it. Your gonna have to upgrade.

I want to take all of you for your input. After going to my first trade show with my son on Saturday in meeting someone there that was kind enough to give me his email address along with your comments I figured out what we needed to do.

  1. Moving up to a Z-4000. More POWER. Will need it since were going to be adding a second line do the set up

  2. Add 4 Fastrack accessory activator packs with wires for every 10 feet. Join these together so the current will carry throughout the track and feed one line to the new transformer.

When I was working on my 4 motor 200 series Alco project, I was using a CW80 for testing. It would run a headlight and three Pullmore motors, but would go into the flashing green lite overload when I added the unit with the fourth motor.

Sounde like a higher wattage transformer might be what you need.

Good luck.
