A 2055 Lionel hudson freight set popped up at a local antique store and is priced at $175 with a tender that looks like this (except with post-war style trucks and lionel lines on thr tender). in C-5 condition. I have 1 question, is this a good price? Thanks!
Without knowing the rest of what’s included, I don’t think anybody can answer.
Some folks refer to that tender as being “Santa Fe” style.
Be certain to check and make certain all four steps are there. Those steps are often found broken off.
Once one step is damaged, some folks will remove all of them to make it less noticable.
The tender should have metal trucks, not plastic.
It is this set, minus the track and transformer.
Not being able to personally view the set its hard to say for sure, but at 150.00 it has to be a good deal for the whole set. You can repaint the engine and tender.

I would agree that $150.00 would be a good price to offer. At first glance I tought the tender was from the “modern era” (1970 and on), but it could very well be a repaint. In the PW era there was never a tender with “D & H” markings, but there has been in the modern era. I would also check all the cars in the set . Ken
The tender pictured is a modern era piece. The original poster state that the 2055 had a similar tender, differing in the trucks and lettering.

I would agree with this statement, with a few extra thoughts. Condition contributes a lot to the worth of the set, but it is also, do you want a 2055? I have a very good 2055, that I didn’t have to repaint, or do anything. I paid good money for it because of condition, and it was in the catalog for the years of trains I collect. Now now that I have it, I don’t run it very much. It is largely a shelf quenn. I think in these terms as I like to run my trains, and find that I like to run other engines more than I like to run the 2055.
… find that I like to run other engines more than I like to run the 2055.
Just curious … Why don’t you like to run it?

The reason I don’t like to run it is, it didn’t become a favorite. It is noisier than other engines and after a short time I lost interest. It does make a great shelf item, and I can’t tell you how many times I looked at the catalog picture before I aquired one.
