Lionel 221-and 2023 up question

Hello,
I am contemplating getting a 221 Drayfus from '46 and was reading my Greenerg Service Manual. It said that it was an 027 engine and that on an 0 layout it would have problems on 0 switches. My layout is 0 with 022 and 042 switches. Does anyone have this engine and if so, is the manual true?

My UP 2023 has trouble derailing on my postwar 1950s 022 switches-is there a remedy?

I also have this steamer and run it through “o” switches. the problem is that the e-unit will cycle. to correct this just lock the e-unit to foward…tony

same here my 221 makes it throught the switches just lock it in forward so it wont cycle.
