I have recently uncovered my fathers Lionel Burlington 2328 set, I believe it’s the O-27 set, from what little research I have done. It has a Hawk 90 watt controller with 4 ports ( U, A, B, C) on the top and two levers a red and black. I have no experience with electric trains and would like to know how to hook up the power from the controller to the track. I would imagine one of the ports is ground and the others are power but do not what is what. Any manuals or advice would be appreciated!
I would like to see a picture of this transformer.
“A” to the outside rails (Lockon clip “2”) and “U” to the center rail(Lockon clip “1”) should get you up and running. Test it out, and then do a good cleaning and lube job on the engine and cars.
Except for the name “Hawk”, that seems like a Lionel 1033, as Rob seems to have guessed. Has anyone every heard of a “Hawk” transformer? Could that be a typo for something else?
Before you run the loco very much, you need to lube it. That involves taking the shell off and disassembling the motor. Use motor oil: 5W-20 or 10W-30 works well. Do not use Lionel Lube, grease, WD-40, 3 in 1 oil, light machine oil, etc. They either get hard or gummy. Motor oil lasts forever.
If you take the motor apart, watch out for small spacer washers on the motor shaft.
