Lionel 2340 GG-1 Problem

Been working on my GG-1 and was having a problem with is running slow and drawing alot of power. Found out that the wheels on the power trucks are dragging on the frame like a spacer is missing, but the diagrams I have seen show no spacer. Anyoneever have this problem and have a solution for it

Thanks

David

Wheel backs rubbing on truck blocks is a common problem as locomotives wear.

One solution is to pull the offending wheel and put washer(s) on the axle. I use 671M-23 washers.
Another solution is to replace the axle bearings.

You could also have a slipped magnet.

Check the Lionel service manual pages. The first one can be found here:

Thanks to Olsen’s for the free library!

You can get a washer on there without pulling the wheel, without too much trouble. Cut a notch in the washer, just the tiniest amount narrower than the axle, and you can force it over the axle.

I see that I did not make a good description of the problem, the wheel flanges were rubbing the underside of the chassis. There was no clearance between the power trucks and chassis. I put washers on the pivot between chassis and truck , gave clearance no more rubbing. Runs nice now. Thanks for your responses.
