Since it’s a birthday gift for my little brother, I only unpacked it for an inspection, leaving the locomotive sealed within the second inner plastic bag. I want him to have the owners enjoyment of being the first to open the final seal and hold the loco since it was built.
He’s wanted one ever since he can remember! Maybe he’ll let me take some pictures after he opens it.

Be sure to give the GG1 a good workout. There have been numerous problems with these new GG1s ( I’ve had several) that many people have experienced. I don’t want to scare you with that statement, however I just wanted to let you know that these weren’t built with the best of care. Hopefully, yours will be a good one.

I have a feeling it’s going to be spending it’s time under glass as a desk display in any event. But if it ever gets onto an operating layout, I’ll make sure it’s inspected and lubricated, and has an adequate and monitored “run in” period.
