lionel 4-8-4 smoke problem

this engine stopped smoking today and leaks a little( or i over filled it) cant find a on and off swith so was wondering is it rather easy to replace this? Or is there maybe a trick to checking it to make sure if it works or not?

thanks train gods!

Hi Zeke! Is this the Lackawanna 4-8-4 That Charlie gave you from 1988? If so, They had no switch to turn on/off the Smoke Unit. Sounds like you may have overfilled it. Turn it upside down with a rag or paper towel under the Smoke Stack to let the Excess fluid Drain out. Then, try it out again & see how it smokes. Should be nothing too much wrong with it. Let us know what happens. Take Care.

thanks keith you are the man. it over flowed. And i cleaned the spill . my light bulb burnt out, maybe cuz is got oilk all over it, duh.

Thing smokes like crazy now, i didnt know it smoked out the sides, this is way cool. There is a switch on the tender whats that for?

Hi Zeke! Glad your Lackawanna is smoking again! The Switch on the bottom of the Tender shuts off the Sound of Steam instead of disconnecting the tether between the engine & tender all the time & the whistle sound will still work when activated by a controller. There are tubes connected from the Smoke Generator to the steam chest to simulate steam coming from the Cylinders connected to the Rods on a Real Steam Engine. Take Care.

I love this engine and the way it smokes, it is heavy and flows nicely. Except it dont like 027 curves, lol
